Adam's rib

Adam's rib

We can find in florists a multitude of inside plants, having low plants such as begonias or higher plants such as the Adam's Rib.

This plant has quite large leaves, with openings in the corners, simulating the ribs of a person, hence the name by which this beautiful plant is known. When the leaves are small, they do not yet have this shape. Its scientific name is Monstera Deliciosa.

We consider this plant as a creeper, since its stems are flexible, not rigid and bend easily, so we need to place some support so that it does not fall. It can reach one meter in height.

It is very easy to care. As I have already said it is a houseplantHowever, it can be placed outside, as long as the weather is very hot. Temperatures below freezing are not tolerated.

If we are lucky enough to have this plant outside, we can enjoy its flowers at three years of life of the plant and from spring to autumn. Since Adam's Rib has a good height, its flowers are also tall. The stem of the flower is wider than that of the plant and ends in the shape of a cream-colored spathe, somewhat similar to that of the Cala.

It is a plant that does not tolerate cold well, but neither does direct sun, as its leaves burn. Whether indoors or outdoors, the plant must be located in a place bright.

In spring they pay once a month, and irrigation is not very abundant, tolerating drought well. Once a week will be enough.

If we have this plant indoors, it should be placed in a flower pot large enough for Adam's Rib to develop its roots without difficulty. Every two years we can transplant the plant and adapt it to the pot according to its needs.
