Origin and characteristics

Our protagonist are a series of herbaceous, perennial and bulbous plants of the genus Babiana, which is composed of about 90 species native to South Africa. The vast majority of them live in the southwestern Cape of Africa, and the rest are distributed between Namaqualand and the northern Cape province. As a curiosity, it must be said that the baboons collect the bulbs to consume them as food, hence the name of the genus.

These are relatively small plants, which reach a maximum height of 10 centimeters, Green color. The flowers are 2-3cm long, actinomorphic, hermaphroditic and fragrant.
