Steps to follow to take out indoor plants during the summer

Indoor plants must be outside

Many inside plants that obtain numerous benefits if we take them outside in summer, without a doubt, receiving directly a little sun, wind, rain or humidity is full of advantages for their development. For example, the rain offers a deep cleaning of its leaves and stems at the same time that it serves as irrigation.

In addition, the exterior light makes them have a higher quality and the presence of a breeze allows them to be well aerated. For this reason, we are going to explain to you what are the steps to follow to take out indoor plants during the summer.

How to move a plant from indoor to outdoor?

The bonsai must be in semi-shade

After the frosts have passed and with the arrival of good weather, it is advisable to take the indoor plants outside. During the first days it will be necessary to protect them from the wind and direct sunlight, since its leaves still need to harden more to support it.

It is important to remove them progressivelyThis may take us about two weeks, but it will be much more effective than if we remove them at once. At first you can put them outside in a shady place for a few hours and then bring them back inside. Then you can expose them to the sun for several hours a day, gradually increasing the hours of daily sunshine. After this period of two weeks of adaptation and without danger of freezing cold at night, you can leave them out.

Another important detail is respect the needs of sun and shade that each plant has, since not all are the same. On the other hand, we must not forget that outside they are exposed to the attack of insects and diseases, as well as to be damaged by some climatic conditions, such as strong winds, therefore we must keep them controlled. Also remember to check the humidity of your soil, since being outside it will dry faster.

When to take the plants out in the sun?

It will depend a lot on the weather conditions where you live. For example, in the Mediterranean they should be removed during the spring, since if it were done later the insolation would be so high that it would burn the leaves very quickly. But If you are in an area where late frosts occur, then you will have to wait for them to pass and for the temperatures to stay above 18ºC.

In any case, you only have to expose those plants that need it to the sun. That is, a fern or an orchid for example, they have to be in shade; But a ficus or a geranium does need sun, at least a few hours each day.

When can geraniums be taken out?

The geraniums They are flowering plants widely grown both indoors and outdoors. If the winter is very cold, with frosts, they are grown in the houses so that they can survive the winter season.

However when the temperatures begin to recover, in spring, you can place them back on your balcony, patio or terrace. Thus, you will surely see them bloom again very soon.

When to take cuttings from indoors to outdoors?

Euphorbias need sun

If you usually take cuttings indoors and keep them at home or in the greenhouse for a season, and you would like to know when to take them outside, then you should know that the sooner the better. Indoors there is a greater risk that these cuttings rot, since the lack of ventilation and the temperatures that usually exist favor the proliferation of fungi.

Although they can be avoided if treatments are made with copper, sulfur or any fungicide that contains either of these two, it is preferable to have the cuttings outside as soon as possible. But beware don't take them outside even if it's going to be frost, since these would cause them damage, to the point that they could spoil them.

As you can see, having plants at home is fine, but if we have the possibility and the temperatures are mild or warm, it will always be better for them to have them outdoors. In this way, they will get stronger and grow healthier.

      Hello rosa.
The Dracaena needs to be in a place with a lot of light if it is indoors, away from drafts.
It has to be changed pot in spring, when it is bought and once every two years. You can use universal growing medium, although I recommend putting a first layer of volcanic clay or pebbles.
Regarding watering, you have to water little: about 2 times a week in the warm months, and once every 15 days the rest of the year.
      A greeting.

      Hi Hope.

In principle, yes, but it is better if they are always outside, except in winter if the temperatures drop below 0 degrees.

Of course, do not put them in direct sun as they will burn. Better in semi-shade.

      Greetings.
