There are many things we can do to improve a soil, and therefore the crops we want to plant in it, and one of the most affordable is adding agricultural plaster and mix it with the surface layer.

Thus, I assure you that everything you want to grow will have better growth and, also, more energy to produce higher quality fruits. But don't you know what it is? Do not worry: I'll explain everything to you below.

What is it?

Agricultural gypsum is a mineral composed of di-hydrated calcium sulfate that farmers have used for a long time, at least since the XNUMXth century. Contains 23% calcium and 18% sulfur; And as if that were not enough, it is quite soluble in water (at 2,5 grams per liter), which makes the calcium in the plaster more mobile than that of the lime.

What are its benefits for the soil?

They are:

  • Provides calcium and sulfur, which will be absorbed by the roots of the plants.
  • It reduces the toxicity that is in the land.
  • Improves the structure of the soil, facilitating rooting.
  • Increases drainage capacity, which will prevent water from remaining puddled.
  • Reduces runoff and erosion. Something that I am sure you will like to know, especially those who have lands that are very worn by intensive agriculture and / or strong winds.

How to apply it?

To be able to have a better soil You just have to put a layer of about 20 centimeters thick on the surface and mix it with the most surface layer of the ground, either with a tractor or rototiller if the area is large or with a hoe if it is rather small.

Repeat this action once a month during the plant growing season, and every 2-3 months the rest. From the second year on, it will not be necessary to pour as many times, once a month or every two months will suffice.
