Alocasia wentii

La Alocasia wentii It is a magnificent plant with large leaves that is grown mainly indoors or in tropical gardens. Its maintenance is similar to that of other species of the genus, which means that it is not difficult to always keep it in perfect condition.

Anyway, so that there is no room for doubt, I'm going to tell you everything about her: its characteristics and its care.

Origin and characteristics

La Alocasia wentii It is a perennial plant native to tropical Asia that is known as elephant ear, colocasia or horse face. It grows to a maximum height of 2 meters, and has large leaves up to 60cm long., green on the upper side and purple on the underside. Over time it develops a short stem or trunk of 40-50cm.

Its growth rate is rather fast if the growing conditions are adequate, but despite this, it adapts without problems to living in containers.

    Very good.

I have one of the three leaves of my alocasia a little sad, what do I do? Short? Division of kills?

      Hello Alvaro.
If it is the oldest, that is, the one that is lower, it will surely die with time. This is normal, as the leaves have a limited life expectancy.

Anyway, until it turns completely yellow, or brown, I do not recommend cutting it, because as long as it contains some green it will continue to photosynthesize and therefore contribute to produce food for the plant.

If this is not what happens to yours, then it may be that it is in the sun or that there is a problem with watering.

The division of the plant is only done when you have a plant that has taken suckers 🙂

      Regards!

Thank you very much, Monica! It's the first one that came out, so I'll hold it there and I'll cut it over time (:
