Bulbs that are planted in spring and bloom in summer

As we saw earlier, the bulbous plants are those that are grown, as the name implies, using bulbous plants that can be bulbs, corms, tuberous roots and rhizomes.

Both bulbs, corms, tuberous roots and rhizomes grow underground and serve to accumulate the necessary nutrients to later manufacture the leaves and help the development of the plant.

Some of these bulbs are planted during spring, but it is in the summer time that they bloom and develop to their fullest.

Within these types of bulbs we find the following plants:

  • Agapanthus: This plant, also known as the love flower or African lily, is characterized by its spectacular deep blue or pure white flowers. It is a very resistant plant so it is used in gardens and parks.

  • Amarilis: The Amaryllis is native to South America and the Caribbean area, it is characterized by having large flowers of different colors, of which red, white, pink, and red with white predominate. This plant blooms from the last days of spring and during the beginning of summer. Usually this type of plants is grown in pots and it is not recommended to bury the bulb too much, it must stand out.
  • Azucena Rosa: also known as Belladona or Azucena de Santa Paula. The pink lily is characterized by very large flowers, approximately 15 centimeters long. It is a very sensitive plant to low temperatures so it must be protected from frost. We must bear in mind that it is a toxic plant, so we must keep it away from our children and pets.
  • Begonia: The begonia, or tuberculous begonia is a plant that is characterized by its great color and shades of colors. This plant, unlike the previous ones, can bloom during any season of the year.
