The plant known by the scientific name Calystegia of hedges It is a relatively small, vivacious climber that produces impressive pure white flowers. Its growth rate is quite fast and it is also evergreen, so it will not be difficult for you to have a very special corner with it.

Origin and characteristics

It is a lively climbing plant - it lives for several years - popularly known as bindweed, morning glory, voluble major or yedra bell. It has its origin in the temperate regions of the northern hemisphere, and reaches a maximum height of five meters provided it has support, with climbing stems up to 2,5m long. The leaves are sagittate, large about 10cm long, and green. It produces white flowers of up to 6cm, with a corolla that acquires a funnel shape, white in color. The fruit is a capsule.

It is very similar to the plants of the genus Ipomoea; in fact, they can be confused. But they differ because they have narrow bracteoles (leaflets that protect flowers), instead of broad and foliaceous.

Uses

Apart from being an ornamental, it is also used as purgative y cholagogue.
