Origin and characteristics

Our protagonist is an endemic plant of the Canary Islands, specifically of La Gomera. Its scientific name is canarian aeonium, and It is characterized by developing short stems, about 50cm high, erect, thick and that do not usually branch. The leaves form a rosette between 15 and 45cm in diameter, each one being flattened. deep green in color, and pubescent both on the upper side and on the underside. The flowers are grouped in inflorescences that measure between 25 and 30cm long and wide.

Once you have canarian aeonium at home, take care of it as follows:

  • Location: outside, in full sun. You will only have to put it in semi-shadow if in the nursery they had it protected from the star king.
  • Earth:
    • Flowerpot: it is not necessary to complicate much. With a mixture of universal growing medium and perlite in equal parts, it can grow wonderfully.
    • Garden: it is indifferent, but it will do better in those lands that have good drainage.
  • Irrigation: 2-3 times a week in summer, and every 5-7 days the rest of the year.
  • Subscriber: from spring to summer with a liquid fertilizer, either specific for succulents or with guano.
  • Multiplication: by seeds, and sometimes also by stem cuttings, in spring or summer.
  • Rusticity: sensitive to strong frost. Do not keep outside in winter if the temperature drops below -3ºC.
