Origin and characteristics

Our protagonist is a plant native to the Canary Islands. Its scientific name is Juniperus cedrus, and the common Canary Cedar or Canary Cedar. It can reach a height of between 5 and 25 meters, with a trunk of 30-40cm in diameter.. Its leaves are perennial, acicular, flat, green to green-glaucous, with a length of 8 to 23mm and a width of 1-2mm. It is dioecious, which means there are female feet and male feet. The fruit is a berry that ripens at 18 months, turning from green to reddish-orange. It is spherical and measures about 8-15mm in diameter.

Its growth rate can be rapid if conditions are favorable, reaching 14-15 meters in 20 years. Unfortunately, it is in danger of extinction in its habitat due to the indiscriminate logging that has been done in the past and the grazing of goats, which is why it has been protected by law since 1953.
