Hello Monica, in search of information about bamboo I came here, I loved your blog, by the way I have a pot with bamboo and I am moving to my new house and I have to design the garden which is very difficult, which is clear to me. is that I want the bamboo in it, I am going to plant it in the form of a curtain with some containment so that it does not invade but I have doubts as to how the pruning is done, since it grows so high and the truth is that I do not want since it would give me shade in excess. So I leave you raised the concern to see if you help me. Thank you very much and greetings from Uruguay.

    Hello Javi.
We are glad that you like the blog (it is not mine, I am only participating as a writer).
With regard to your doubts if you do not want it to grow a lot high, the ideal is that you plant it in the soil with a pot. In this way, not only the height of the plant is reduced, but also the appearance of the "suckers". As for pruning, it can be done from spring to autumn. Bamboo is a very hardy plant and, growing so fast, it can be pruned at any time (except in the frosty season).
    Greetings and thanks for following.

Hello Monica. I have Bamboo in my garden for 7 years. I have verified that I have bamboo rhizomes in areas where I did not plant it. I am afraid of trees, especially nearby, and a hydrangea planter that is one meter and a half away, I have it infested. There are rhizomes tucked into the root balls, and I am even afraid of the wall, I have seen that they are large (some one and a half centimeters in diameter) and they are very strong. What do you advise me? Do I cut all the bamboo? Do I make a ditch to cut all the rhizomes that come out of the bush? If I cut the rhizomes, do I guarantee that the plant does not regenerate? Thank you very much for your advice.

      Hi Gonzalo.
Bamboo is a very, very invasive plant. The Phyllostachys nigra (black bamboo) can be controlled well, but the others… not so much.
If you cut those rhizomes that have come out in areas where there were none, it is likely that they will come out again, so you would have to cut every so often.
The solution would be to remove all the bamboo. If they are removed with the root, they will not come out again.
      A greeting.
