Phalaenopsis

To have a Phalaenopsis alive for a long time, you have to take into account the following:

  • Location: you have to place it in a room where it receives a lot of natural light, but not direct. It also has to be protected from drafts, both cold and warm. The ideal temperature for this beautiful flower is between 15 and 25ºC.
  • Irrigation: this plant is sold planted in a transparent pot, since in its place of origin it grows on the branches of other trees, so that its roots are exposed. When they absorb the water, they turn green, so we will only have to water it when they are white, using rain or acidified water (diluting the liquid of half a lemon to a liter of water).
  • Subscriber: it must be paid with an orchid fertilizer during the warm months, following the indications specified on the product packaging.
  • Transplant: every two years, in spring, the substrate can be changed by adding pine bark -for sale in nurseries-. Position your plant so that it is just 1cm (or less) below the edge of the pot.

With these tips it will be difficult for you to have pests and / or diseases. Even so, you must always be vigilant as it could be affected by cottony mealybug or by mushrooms. The former can be removed with a swab from the ears, but the latter can be fought with systemic fungicides and by reducing the frequency of irrigation.

Enjoy your Phal 🙂.
