Roses

All the roses are the most cultivated flowers in the worldThey represent love and passion and are very beautiful with their variety of colors. But the universe of roses is not so simple as there are different varieties that vary in their colors and their perfumes.

Many of them are roses designed with great care, the product of successive hybridizations. Roses have been selected throughout history to give life to new varieties, which not only vary in appearance but also in qualities. Some are more resistant roses and others are very exotic specimens.

Regardless of the rose we are talking about, it is a very beautiful flower and that is why it is admired throughout the world but to get to know it better today we dedicate ourselves to delving into the different types of roses.

Classification of roses

We can sort the roses in three large groups. On the one hand, there are wild roses, that is, those that are natural and spontaneous.. Then there are the calls old roses, which are the varieties of roses prior to 1867, the year that coincides with the birth of the first tea rose. Finally, we have at modern roses, which are those versions after the year 1867.

Wild roses

From the wild roses the rest of the varieties of roses have been born. It must be taken into account that there are more than 30.000 varieties registered in the world and many new roses appear every year. Of all of them, only two or three thousand are for sale.

The focus on each group

Rosales

Between the most popular wild rose bushes there are the dog rose, the centifolia rose, the damascene rose, the gallica rose and the rugosa rose. It is always about roses of great height (they can measure up to 2 meters) and with very strong thorns.

As for the old roses, also known as old roses, they are very strong varieties and resistant to pests and diseases although hard to find. Although they are increasingly widespread, they are still a minority. Ancient rose bushes are classified into thirteen groups: Alba, Bornonians, Centifolia, China, Damascenos, Gallica, Perpetual Hybrid, Mossy, Noisettianos, Patio, Portland, Sempervirens, Tea.

All the modern roses are the most widespread and they are the ones that you commonly find in any garden. 95% of the roses cultivated today are modern although within this group there are subgroups such as Miniature roses, climbing roses or carpet roses.
