Our protagonist is a plant whose scientific name is Crassula perforata. It is native to the Cape Provinces, in South Africa, and has an erect bearing. It develops erect stems up to 45cm tall composed of fleshy leaves 8 to 20mm long by 9 to 13mm wide that seem to embrace them. These are light green to glaucous in color, and are covered on their surface by a fine floury layer.

The flowers are grouped in terminal cymose inflorescences of 15-30cm, creamy in color and slightly aromatic.
