How to create a microclimate in the garden

Lawn garden

Each garden is unique, even each small area is unique and unrepeatable. And no, I am not just referring to the fact that there may be different plants, but the microclimate in each one. Thus, in an area where it is directly exposed to the sun, it will have a drier microclimate than if there are different plant beings that protect it.

Creating a microclimate in the garden is a relatively simple task, thanks to which we can even have plants that, otherwise, could not survive in our area.

What are microclimates?

Trees in a garden

Microclimates They are the set of meteorological conditions that have small corners or areas. There are several factors that compose it: temperature, altitude, light, topography, wind, ... and of course the plants. To have a healthy garden, It is highly recommended to take a look at the vegetation cover that exists in the gardens of our area; so we can have an idea of which ones we want to plant and where.

Thus, taking care of them will be a much more pleasant experienceWell, we will not have to worry about whether they will endure the weather or not by having the certainty that they will. Something that will undoubtedly allow them to grow with strength and health.

How to modify or create one?

Tall cypress hedge

If we do not like the weather conditions in our area very much, or if we want to plant a little more delicate species, it is interesting to modify the microclimate of the garden or even create one. How do you do this? Very easy:

  • Plant a windbreak hedge: tall shrubs, such as yew, laurel or cypress, are ideal plants to avoid too much wind in a corner.
  • Consider planting evergreen trees for shade: To have a corner of shade plants, it is essential that there are trees or other tall evergreen plants.
  • Have a sunny garden: If you have a piece of land that is exposed to the sun for many hours, take advantage of it. Plant cacti, fruit trees, palm trees, or create a vegetable garden.
  • Group plant: the groups of plants are very well in the gardens, especially if they are of flowers or shade plants. They will create a microclimate thanks to which they can develop without problems.

As you can see, you can modify the climate of your garden whenever and however you want 🙂.

Very good recommendations! I am following your advice in my new plot, I began to plant flower laurel as a living fence in the area most exposed to the winds, and I have also planted evergreen trees to start making shade in the part where the sun arrives all day. I chose mainly polponeus and discolor brachichitos, I planted them in a straight line 4,5 meters apart, and at a distance of 6 meters from the perimeter fence. It will be enough?.

      Hello Ramon.
At these separation distances, your trees will grow wonderfully well, and incidentally, you will get a windbreak hedge that will be very healthy in addition to being decorative 🙂.
      A greeting.
