All the medicinal plants They have been used by humans for millennia. Already the ancient inhabitants of the jungle consumed them to prevent and cure various pathologies. Today, with the rise of modern medicine, we are seeing how more and more of us are returning a little to that natural past to which only our beloved plants can take us.
That is why it is increasingly common to find a corner with this type of plants in gardens around the world, a medicinal garden thanks to which to prepare infusions that will surely make our lives healthier. Do you want to know some plants that you can have in your garden?
Rosemary
El romero, whose scientific name is Rosmarinus officinalis, is a shrubby plant native to the Mediterranean. Although it is usually found more as a ground floor as you can see in the photo above, through pruning it can also be formed as a one meter high tree. The latter is a good option if you want to save space. Lover of the sun, it is resistant to drought and light frosts, as well as the sea breeze.
It is rather slow growing, but because it is a very decorative plant from a young age, can dress the garden from day one of the acquisition.
Thyme
El thyme, whose scientific name is Thymus vulgaris, is found in central and southern Europe, living in calcareous soils, also in full sun. It is a small plant no more than 35cm tall, which has long been used as a medicinal plant.
An interesting feature is its smell, which is very pleasant.. It is resistant to drought and mild frosts.
Lavender
We have talked a lot in this blog about the lavender essence . And it is an extraordinary plant, native to the Mediterranean and the Asian continent. It has lilac flowers of incredible beauty, resistance to pests (in fact it is used as a repellent) and drought, fast growth, medicinal properties ... What more could you ask for?
There are several species of lavender, but the most popular are the Lavandula angustifolia and lavandula dentata, both very easy to find in nurseries and garden centers.
Peppermint
We end this list with the mint. Its scientific name is mentha spicata, and it is one of those plants that cannot be missing in your medicinal garden. Originally from Europe, it can grow to a height of approximately one meter, but in cultivation it does not usually exceed 40cm. It is very fast growing.
