When we think of bromeliads, a plant growing in the form of a rosette usually comes to mind, whose leaves, when touched, remind us of the touch of plastic. They are rigid, but many times we do not imagine them with thorns. But crypt it is, in addition to being very decorative, a bit prickly.

It is a bromeliad belonging to the genus Cryptanthus native to Brazil, perfect to have inside the home.

Characteristics of the crypt

Cryptanthus warasii

Cryptanthus warasii

Plants of the genus Cryptanthus form basal rosettes with narrow, leathery leaves, with a spiny edge, of very diverse colors: green-glaucous, bi or tricolor, reddish ... They often have longitudinal or transverse stripes, which increase their ornamental value. The flowers are very small, white.

Due to its tropical origin, can't stand the cold. But that is not a problem since it is one of the bromeliads that best adapts to living indoors. In fact, it can be placed inside a bottle to create a mini garden, in terrariums, or in planters along with other bromeliads placed on a log to recreate their habitat.
