Duranta repens plant

Our protagonist it is an evergreen shrub, usually with thorns, that grows 2 to 4m tall. It is originally from the United States, Brazil and Argentina. The flowers are grouped in recurved or pendulous racemes up to 22cm long, and are blue, lilac or white. Once they are pollinated, the fruit begins to ripen, which will be a drupe similar in size to cherries that will contain 2 seeds.

It is a toxic plant: leaves and berries can kill children and pets. However, in Mexico, in the state of Hidalgo, cooking of the leaves is used to purify the blood.

Hi, I have the same plant, it has sticky white fungus, how can I cure it?

      Hello Sonia.
It may be cottony mealybugs, not fungi (mushrooms are generally not sticky 😉 ).
You can remove them by hand, or with a brush soaked in a mixture of water and a little (a drop or that, very little) of dish soap. Another option is to apply diatomaceous earth, of which I leave you the link in case you want to buy it.
      A greeting.
