Plants easy to have and take care of: Alpidistra

Aspidistra

One of the simplest plants of the vegetable kingdom is the alpidistra, one of those species that we could say that grows alone. Although it needs some care, it is a very simple plant that can survive without much care.

This plant is present in many homes not only for this quality but because it is a large green leaves plant which is very attractive and can be adapted to different places.

Characteristics of Aspidistra

Aspidistra leaves

Aspidistra is also known as Rooms sheets Because it is a plant that you can find decorating many living rooms. Its scientific name however is none other than Aspidistra Elatior and it is a plant that belongs to the family Ruscaceae and it is native to Asia, both China and Japan and the Himalayan area.

It is a herbaceous and rhizomatous plant, whose leaves form a generous bush and therein lies its appeal. The leaves are of an intense green color, wide and are born from the root of the plant. The point against it is that it is a slow-growing plant, so you have to be patient with its development since only two to three leaves are born per year. But in return we will have a robust and resistant plant that can live for about ten years in good conditions.

With strong roots, its flowering is scarce and when the plant is produced it gives away purple carols at ground level.

Aspidistra care

Aspidistra plant

One of the most important aspects when caring for Aspidistra is exposure, since it is a plant that does not tolerate being in full sun, although it is necessary to offer it a little luminosity. As it tolerates shade well, you can place it near an edge so that it receives the light but without being exposed. In addition, it must be placed in a cool place.

It is important that the pot of the plant is adequate because Aspidistra has strong roots that need space to develop healthily. The plant reaches an average height of between 60 and 80 centimeters but the important thing is that the base is wide and generous so that the roots feel comfortable and the plant develops in order.

La Aspidistra must be paid once a month between April and September, and it is not demanding with watering since one watering every two weeks in winter and one every 5 to 7 days in summer will suffice. Every three years a transplant is recommended so that the roots find a place to develop again.

A central aspect in the Aspidistra care is that the leaves are kept clean and free of dust. It is best to remove it using disposable towels.
