From the almost complete echeveria laui you should know that it is an endangered succulent in its natural habitat. Due to grazing (because the animals eat it), to the wind and, above all, to the fact that many collect them to sell them, there are very few plants of this species left in nature and that is why it is considered especially important to take care of the specimens that exist.

The succulent is characterized by having some leaves, round and chubby, covered with spray. This is a white layer that covers almost the entire plant and that works in multiple ways: as an antibiotic, sunscreen, insect repellent, waterproofing ... Its objective is that the plant does not lose the moisture it has, in addition to avoiding burns. caused by sunlight or keeping insects at bay.

In general, echeveria laui it can reach 15 centimeters in height and have a diameter double, that is, about 30 cm.

From time to time, and if you are lucky enough to provide good care, a stem or two will start to grow. This can reach between 6 and 20 cm in length, but not in height because, after a few centimeters, the stem will fall due to the weight. This will have little leaves (between 5 and 7 from 11 to 20mm) and will also end in a few pretty flowers that will be pink. Yes, you have a succulent that will give you flowers.

You already know this succulent a little better, but in order to keep it at home and provide it with a good place to develop (which, by the way, is quite slow to grow) you need to provide it with the care it needs. And what are those? Well the following:

Location

The location of the echeveria laui it will depend on where you live. In general, the best place to be is full sun, but if you live in a very hot area, sometimes it is better to place it in semi-shade so that its leaves do not suffer.

And the fact is that, although the pruine protects it, if it fails you can find that the plant burns or loses that thickness that it has characteristic.

Temperature

La echeveria laui it is a very resistant plant; so much that withstands heat easily. Now, in winter, although it can withstand the cold, frost can take its toll on it, so if where you live is very cold (we are talking about temperatures falling below 5 degrees) it is best to protect it during those months in which the temperatures drop too low.

Earth

Do you know that this succulent loves soils that are poor? So thats it. You don't need to provide it with a lot of nutrients, because it doesn't need it. That does not mean that you should plant it carelessly, but with a little substrate mixed with gravel it can be more than enough to make it feel good.

Flower pot

In the case of the flowerpot, we recommend that put a big one on it. Being slow growing, you will not have a problem in that you have to change it in a short time, on the contrary, it will allow you to keep it for 2-3 years and at the same time give it enough space for it to develop.

Irrigation

This is one of the most important care of the echeveria laui, and also the ones that make the most mistakes. And it is that this succulent does not tolerate excess water. It is much better that, between one watering and another, you let the soil dry completely.

In addition, it is not appropriate for it to have a small dish underneath that collects the water, unless you empty it 10 minutes after watering it, because that will only make the earth always wet.

In general, one watering a week in summer (unless it is very hot, which could be two a week), and one every two weeks or a month in winter will be more than enough.

Of course, the water when you pour it, try not to touch the leaves because, if it does, the only thing you are going to get is that the waste falls off and you expose it to major problems.

To prevent the plant from having contact with the irrigation water, what many do is place a layer of stone so that it acts as a "mattress".

Pruning

This succulent is not a plant that needs pruning, although from time to time you will have to remove the dry leaves, especially the base, to prevent moisture from accumulating between them.

Plagues and diseases

You must be careful because there are two pests that can kill this succulent: aphids and cottony mealybug (This attacks the roots and the stem).

In general, they appear more commonly if they are in places that have poor lighting and ventilation.

If this happens, it is best to treat it with a specific product for these pests in order to eliminate them as soon as possible. It is even recommended to change the substrate to try to clean the roots of those "bugs", and after a few days place it in the sun directly to see if it recovers.

Multiplication

When you already have one echeveria laui large enough, you may wonder if it would be possible to multiply it. Well, yes you can, both by seeds and by the leaves themselves. These should be placed between damp napkins to encourage the development of roots but it also allows planting them directly.

However, it takes a long time to grow, and sometimes you have to be patient to achieve it.

As you see, the echeveria laui It is one of the most beautiful succulents that you can have, but also quite slow in its growth and with some peculiarities in its care. Do you have one at home? Do you have doubts about how to take care of it? Tell us and we will try to help you.
