The false laurel, whose scientific name is Litsea glaucescens, is a shrub or tree that reaches a height of between 3 and 6 meters. It develops a thick trunk with brown bark. The leaves are thin and long, leathery in texture, and strong green on the upper side and lighter green on the underside. The flowers are pink or white and are grouped in clusters during spring. The fruits are black.
