What do I need to grow asparagus?
The first thing to do before anything else is to prepare everything that is going to be needed. To grow asparagus you only need the following:
- Una flower pot that is at least 30cm in diameter. If it is wider, the better, because that way more shoots can emerge.
- Universal substrate. You don't need to get too complicated with the soil, anyone who is sold ready-made in nurseries and garden stores will do just fine.
- Watering can with water to moisten the substrate.
- Seeds, seedlings or claws (rhizomes). With these last two you can already harvest the first year, while with the seeds you will have to wait at least three years.
How to sow asparagus?
Regardless of what you use to cultivate, whether the seeds, the seedlings or the claws, to be successful it is very important that you do not plant everything together. It is advisable that the seeds are about 20cm apart, and the seedlings or claws have an individual pot.
The time to sow them is in spring, at which time temperatures are between 10 and 25 degrees Celsius, values that favor the growth and development of asparagus. In any case, it will be useless if the climate is suitable if the seedbed is not taken care of.
The soil must be kept moist and free of wild herbs and microorganisms. In addition, it is advisable to sprinkle copper or sulfur on the surface of the substrate in order to avoid the appearance of fungi.
Thus, you can grow your asparagus 🙂.
