How to make a homemade rooting agent with lentils

homemade rooting agent with lentils

Rooting agents help the plant to settle better in the ground and develop with a better quality of life, so if you still do not use them when sowing, it is a good time to start doing it now that you know its advantages. There are many types of root agents, from growth hormones, which you can buy in specialized stores, to a large number of homemade root agents prepared with elements of nature. The salicylic acid obtained from the willow can create an effective rooting but you can also design a homemade rooting with lentils.

Therefore, we are going to dedicate this article to tell you how to make a homemade rooting agent with lentils.

The importance of rooting

how to make a natural rooting agent with lentils

Many times we have come across beautiful gardens, cared for by meticulous owners who take care of every detail. It is likely that we have even asked them for a cuttings to repeat the recipe in our green space but at the time of reproducing the plant the results have not been all that expected.

It does not always happen but sometimes the problem is in the roots of the plant, in the strength with which the roots accommodate and adapt to the new habitat and this is where natural rooting agents can be of great help. If you prefer not to resort to chemicals, you can make an effective natural rooting agent using lentils and spending very little money.

The steps to follow

To have a natural rooting agent with lentils, what you should do is plant one or two lentils together with the cutting because lentils help the growth of the roots thanks to the fact that they contain auxins, very effective phytohormones for the development of the roots.

Lentils must be of quality and that is why germination at home is recommended, dipping a cup of lentils in a container with four cups of water. Then the container is covered and reserved for three or four days.

Once they have germinated, they are beaten with the water and the mixture is strained. Finally, it is diluted in water so that the mixture is not so concentrated and finally it is watered with the liquid.

Lentil concentrate can be stored in the refrigerator for about fifteen days and can be used on all types of plants, being used in cuttings but not in already developed plants as then the plants lose the natural balance between the roots and the aerial part.

growth by home rooting with lentils

We know that developing new plants from cuttings can be complicated if we do not know the technique well. Something that will help us increase the success rate is to use growth hormones. These hormones can be introduced with the use of a homemade lentil rooter for cuttings. You only need lentils and water. Some have used this rooting agent at some time but do not know why it works. Lentils have a high concentration of auxin. It is a phytohormone that works by regulating plant growth causing elongation of cells.

When we produce the germination of lentils in water is released during the process auxin. In this plant hormone it will continue to arrive until it ends up having a water rich in auxin. When this water has a high concentration of this plant hormone, it helps to elongate the plant cells of those plants that we are watering. This is how we manage to stimulate the growth of the roots in a natural way so that our plant can cling well to the ground and from there begin to develop in good conditions.

preparing a homemade rooting agent

The first thing you need is one part of lentils for every 4 part is water. We can use a cup with lentils and another 4 with water. We just have to add the lentils to the water and cover the container with the last name. It is advisable to allow a few days for the water to fill with auxin in a controlled way. You can constantly see how germination is working.

Once these days have passed, most likely all the lentils are completely finished. If these lentils have finished correctly, they will have released enough plant hormone to stimulate the growth of other cells if we use this water as irrigation. For the next step, we need to liquefy or process the lentils together with the water they have been with these days. We must blend as well as possible and, once we have processed the mixture, we must strain the preparation to drain it as best as possible. In this way, we can discard all the lentil skins that have remained in the strainer and that will not be useful to us.

It is at this point where we have achieved what we are interested in to make our homemade rooting with lentils. It is this liquid that is loaded with auxin and that is capable of stimulating the growth of the roots of our cuttings. Nevertheless, we should not use it pure, so there are several more steps. The next step is to dilute this concentrate so that it is not so strong and ends up being counterproductive for our plants. We should try to get a mix of auxin for every 10 parts of water. For example, we can dilute 100 milliliters of this mixture in one liter of water.

Once we have prepared our homemade rooting agent with lentils, we just have to add it to a container that is comfortable for us to be able to water our plants. The effect is quite good and is achieved in great results making our cuttings have longer and healthier roots. In order to keep it, you need to keep it in the fridge for about 15 days. There is no need to prepare too much rooting as you may not use it all.

If by any chance the lentils have not finished in the water, you can try to repeat the process again. You just have to soak one part of the lentils for every 4 parts of water and let it rest for 8 hours. Strain all the water and store it in the fridge. Leave the wet lentils without water to germinate for 4 days.

I hope that with this information you can learn more about how to make a homemade rooting agent with lentils.

      Hello Antonio.
No, I do not recommend it since fungus could appear.
If you are not convinced by this method, try these others homemade rooting agents.
      All the best

We have a marjoram plant planted in a pot that sits on a balcony without direct light; but very well lit. We cut some cuttings from that plant to multiply it. The cuttings rooted very well; but the mother plant is dying. It happens that the part that was left of the cut branch has dried up and some neighboring twigs too. I appreciate in advance that you give us an idea to avoid that in future cuts. Greetings.

      Hello Armín.
The way to avoid problems is to disinfect the pruning tool with pharmacy alcohol or a few drops of dishwasher and water, and put healing paste on the wound.
      A greeting.

Thank you very much Monica. I am about to prepare some homemade healing paste for the next opportunity, because in this one, we definitely lost the whole little plant. Greetings

I have a marijuana plant, I think they call it afloricienta or autoflowering to make oil for my migraines and I started 4 to 5 later to put the shake on it since it is not done on the same day. Between 10 or 15 days passed and I already watered them three more times. Until when do I do this step? Thanks Monica

      Hola!
The truth is that I don't know how to tell you. You have to water it when necessary until it nears its end, something that happens about 2-3 months after sowing.

If your goal is to make oil, you should do it before it dries, that is, about 15-30 more days.

In any case, I recommend you contact an expert on these plants so that they can advise you better.

      Greetings.

    Hello Monica,

I am trying to make cannabis cuttings in water. I wanted to know if this rooting is useful to put in the water. Or if I could put some lentils directly in the glass of water where I have the cutting.
    Thank you!

      Hi Joaquin.

No, I do not advise it. For what you need, I recommend the homemade black bean rooting agent, or even vinegar. Here we talk about them.

      Greetings.

You can simply use hydrogen peroxide diluted in a ratio of ten to one, place it in water in a plastic bag, fill it with this dilution and insert the cutting, close it properly and close it at the top, in a few days you will see it come out. the expected roots, I did it and it took me a bit, but finally the roots came out.

Thank you very much Ricardo. It sure works for someone.
