Cauliflower is a plant that has a fairly fast growth rate, so growing it is a magnificent experience. And it is that in just a few weeks it will be ready for harvest.
Although we can buy it directly in supermarkets, the truth is that the moment you go to pick it up from your garden produces such a pleasant feeling that it makes all the work worthwhile. So let's see how is the cultivation of cauliflower.
When is it sown?
There are different varieties of cauliflower (summer-autumn, autumn-winter and winter-spring) so the time of sowing is not the same in all. Yes indeed, avoid sowing it in the hottest season of the year and also in the coldest season, especially if frosts usually occur.
How is it grown?
Earth
The land has to be free of herbs, so before planting it we must remove all of them, if any. What's more, it is highly advisable to put on a layer of organic fertilizer and mix it with the most superficial layer.
Irrigation
Must be frecuente. Therefore, the drip irrigation system must be installed or, failing that and if we are going to have few plants, reuse 5 or 8-liter bottles, making a small hole in their base and filling them with water every time we go to water.
Planting time
If we have sown them in a seedbed or in a pot, we will have to pass them to the garden when they have 3 or 5 leaves. In this way, they will be able to continue their development on land without problems.
Harvest
We can collect it after 3 months, cutting the inflorescences together with some tender leaves. It is necessary to select the small and white bud, avoiding that it turns yellow. Once harvested, it can be stored in the refrigerator for a week, or hung upside down in a cool, ventilated place for three weeks.
Good planting! 🙂
