How the ringing is done

Tickled

Trimming is a gardening technique that consists of separating the seedlings once they have reached a desired height. Each species of plant has its ideal moment, and this will depend on the speed of growth they have.

This time we will see what the ringing is, and the things that must be taken into account to be successful.

To successfully separate the seedlings we must take into account the following:

  • Seedling size
  • Their health
  • Season of the year in which we meet

First, the size

There is no standard height that can be applied to all types of plants, since not all grow at the same speed, nor do they all reach the same adult size.

For this reason, we must first inform ourselves about the species to which our vegetable corresponds to, more or less, get an idea of what size is the ideal to chime. However, we can say that with a 10-15cm height most plants withstand peeling quite well.

Health status of the seedlings

It is very important to check that the seedlings are healthy. If they have had pest problems, it will be convenient to wait a little longer to separate them, especially if it has been a major setback and / or there have been casualties.

If we see that there is a seedling that is decayed, especially if we have many in the same pot, we will eliminate it, and proceed to apply fungicide either ecological (sulfur, for example), or chemical. Why fungicide? Because fungi are the ones that, with the greatest number of times, end the life of these young plants. Sometimes it is enough that we exceed only once with the irrigation, so that they make their appearance. Therefore, it will be necessary to control the humidity of the substrate to avoid this type of problems.

Season

As a general rule, you should proceed to the ringing in spring. Although, obviously, there are plants - such as those that are planted in this season and bloom in autumn - that can be pealed towards the middle of the summer.
