Lettuce is one of the horticultural plants that can be grown directly in the garden or, if you have it, in a pot. Being rather small, it will not have any problem growing and developing as it should regardless of where it was planted.
However, when it comes time to cut it, an important question may arise: How is lettuce harvested?
Lettuce is a herbaceous plant that sown in late winter or early spring (also in summer if it is the 'four seasons' variety), either in a seedbed or in the garden, and that it will be ready for harvest about three months later. Its growth rate is quite fast, so much so that if you do not have much experience or you want your children to learn to grow plants, with this vegetable you will / are going to enjoy a lot for sure.
In addition, when you take it you will not have to complicate yourself too much. What's more, it can be caught in three different ways:
- With a previously disinfected knife, it is cut at the base, that is, just before the roots are born. Thus, the root system remains in the pot or soil.
- With a hoe, or with the same hands if the soil is very soft or in a pot, is extracted by digging up the roots. These can then be cut with scissors.
- Ir cutting the leaves as they are needed.
What is the difference? Well, apart from the obvious 🙂, If the roots are left intact, something very interesting can happen: another lettuce comes out again which is very good. Of course, if you want to plant another plant in the same place, the ideal is to dig up the roots of the lettuce; otherwise, you won't have to. In this case, you can remove the sheets you need and leave the rest.
And you, how do you collect your lettuces?
