During the cool months, if you have or are going to have a garden, you will surely want to spend time outdoors enjoying the relaxing atmosphere of the place. And what better way to do it than by standing near a fire that can protect you from the cold.

If you want that to stop being a simple thought and become a reality, then we explain how to build a bonfire in the garden.

What do I need to build a bonfire?

Refractory bricks

To spend very pleasant moments in the garden during the cool season of the year, it is very important that you get these materials to build your fire pit:

  • Firebrick
  • Gravel
  • Expanded clay
  • Stick of a certain height (about 40cm)
  • Rope
  • Azada
  • Spray paint
  • Bubble level
  • Beton Fast adhesive
  • Gloves. They can be gardening, but if you have delicate hands or want to have them better protected, get construction.
  • OPTIONAL: Arctic quartzite or other fire resistant material

First of all, You must inform yourself about the local legislation regarding the distance that the bonfire must be from the neighbors' homes and from your own house, as well as the rules of use. Not all places can make a fire on any day of the year; In fact, to give you an idea, in the Balearic Islands they only allow us to do it from October 15 to May 1 in forest lands and in their vicinity, and in the rest of the islands it is not recommended during those months, since the precipitations are so little and the terrain is so dry that any grass catches too easily.

Once you have done this, you must find the right place to build the bonfire. To avoid problems, you have to be away from septic tanks, seepage areas, and plants. The more distance you leave, the better.

Now stick a stick and tie a rope to the opposite end of which, using spray paint, you can draw a circle of about 260cm on the ground. You can also choose to wrap the string around a can of construction marker spray. After this, you can remove the stick, although I recommend leaving it on so that it is well centered.

Then You must dig a 10cm deep trench delimited by the paint circle and fill it with a layer of about 5cm of refractory expanded clay. Compact it well with a shovel, and check with the level that it is straight. Then draw another circle 61cm from the center and place two rows of firebrick from it, leaving as little space as possible between them. Lay them so that the flat side is facing up, and fix the new brick floor with drops of the adhesive.

Finally, fill the joints with refractory mortar whose consistency is similar to that of compact mashed potatoes and covers the space left to the outer circle with gravel.

If you want to beautify the garden fire, you can embellish the outside with arctic quartzite or another sturdy material to the fire.
