Do you want to know what we have come up with and how you can do it with yours? Well keep reading and you will find out.

what is a dipladenia?

you may have read dipladenia but you do not know exactly what the plant is like, or if it suits you or not for your garden.

Una dipladenia comes from South America and it is a vine. It is characterized by abundant green leaves but, above all, by abundant flowering that will give you red or pink flowers. These, with the green of their leaves, contrast very well and create a wonderful landscape.

Can reach 9 meters in height, but it can be controlled. You can even have it inside the house.

Dipladenia care

Dipladenia care

Now that we have situated you, let us give you a summary of the dipladenia care that you are going to need because these can influence where you want to entangle it.

Location and temperature

dipladenia It adapts well both indoors and outdoors. But in both cases you must make sure that it has a lot of lighting.

This means that, depending on where you live, you can place it in full sun or semi-shade. How to know? Easy: If you live in a cold climate, put it in full sun. If it is in a temperate-warm climate, then in semi-shade, so that the hours of greatest incidence do not affect it.

At a minimum, you must have a temperature between 15 and 29 degrees, but it is capable of resisting cold up to 7 degrees and heat up to 35 degrees. Beyond that, both one extreme and the other will suffer.

Irrigation

Dipladenia watering is important, because it likes water very much. You will have to keep it moist and that implies water it between 1 and 3 times a week in a general way (if it is very hot in summer, daily watering may be necessary).

It is important not to water by splashing the leaves or flowers, because that only opens the doors to possible diseases. Therefore, it is better to pour the water only at the base.

Besides, if it is provided with environmental humidity, it will appreciate it much more. In this case you can spray mineral water on it at least once a day.

Subscriber

It is provided to you in spring and summer months. It is always done through liquid fertilizer and this must contain both micro and macro elements.

Pruning

Although some say that dipladenia is not pruned, this is relative. If you want keep her healthy and at the same time control her, you will have to prune the broken stems, dead and branches that you see that are sick.

This is always done in spring.

Plagues and diseases

You may have to face red spiders (causing leaves to turn yellow with black dots) and cottony mealybugs (which will make the leaves look blotchy white like cotton).

Also, you can get sick if there is a excess light, insufficient watering or temperature is not suitable for the plant.

How to tangle a vine

Now that you know what the care is and what dipladenia is like, we are going to answer the question that is the subject of this article: How to entangle a dipladenia.

To begin with, as a climbing plant that it is, we could say that there are two ways to entangle it:

Using a guide or tutor

The first way to do it can be using a guide or tutor. This allows the plant to twist vertically, without anything else being necessary. It looks quite good because it allows you not to have to place it next to a wall or a structure where it can have more consistency.

And how is it done? Well, it's easy if you still have it small (if it's bigger it will cost you a little more, but not much). The first thing is to get a guide or tutor (or do it yourself). We recommend that it be long, to avoid having to change it soon or that the plant will outgrow it.

this must place it in the same pot or on the ground, next to the base of the plant, in such a way that after fixing it you must place the branches around it as if you wanted to cover it with them. Again, if the plant is small, it will not cost you much, since by putting the branches that you have around it, the plant will do the rest. If it's bigger and already has long branches, then it might take you a bit longer.

In case you are wondering how you can fix the branches, there are several ways. One that we like a lot, and it is very fast, is with small tweezers. Yes, yes, the hair ones. It consists of fixing it with the guide and, when you see that it has been fixed, you will only have to remove it and use it in another part that you want to fix (if you need it). These don't hurt, but if you want more options, they can be clothespins (be careful with their strength so they don't break the branch), flexible wire, etc.

Using a lattice

Another method you can use to entangle a dipladenia is a lattice. You can this place on the wall or in the same pot. Of course, keep in mind that if you put it directly in the pot, you have to make sure that it will not fall due to the weight of the plant on it.

The method is similar to the one we have mentioned. You have to place it next to the base of the plant and you must place the branches on it until, by itself, it becomes easily entangled.

If you put it in the pot, it will probably not be very long, and possibly not wide either, so, when the plant grows, you may need to remove it and put another one (and it will almost always be out of the pot to make it bigger). For this reason, our recommendation is that you put it on a large lattice and attached to the wall.

That will limit the place where you put it, but in return you can create a veil on a wall or even make arches with the plant around doors, windows, balconies, etc.
