How to make a homemade fungicide with milk

Mildew

Leaf infected by the fungus known as mildew. It can be treated with fungicides bought in the nurseries, but also with the one you make at home based on milk.

The mushrooms They are the microorganisms that cause the most serious damage to plants. They spread so quickly that when we realize that it has sickened our beloved pots or some green specimen in the garden, it is usually too late. For this reason, it is much better to prevent, using substrates with good drainage and avoiding excessive watering.

But it is impossible to protect them 100%, and problems sometimes happen. What to do in these cases? Well, nothing better than resorting to homemade products to combat these fungal beings. Let's see how to make a homemade fungicide with milk.

How to make the homemade milk-based fungicide?

Milk

One of the most interesting fungicides is the one that is prepared with skimmed milk, since it not only cures the disease but also has very useful nutrients for plants, such as lactic acid that kills fungi effectively, and phosphates and potassium which are very necessary for them to develop in the best possible way.

To prepare it you will need:

  • 8 parts of rainwater (if it comes from the tap, let it rest for a couple of days)
  • 2 parts skim milk
  • 20 grams of baking soda per liter of liquid mixture

You put everything in a sprayer, mix well and apply for two days in a row, at dusk. In a preventive way you can apply it every 15 days, so your plants will recover much sooner than you think from the fungal infection.

How to avoid fungi?

Young plant

Fungi act very fast, but only when the plant shows any sign of weakness. To prevent that from happening, it is very important to use porous substrates, have a good sewer system, and check their humidity before watering. If you have a plate under them, remove it after 15 minutes of watering, since contact with water can end up rotting the roots.
