How to plant hydrangea cuttings

Hydrangea

Who has not ever gone to the market and fell in love with these incredible flowers? And it is that, in addition to decorative, they are very easy to take care of… And also to cultivate.

This time I am going to explain to you how to plant hydrangea cuttings, so you can increase your collection quickly and, above all, at zero cost.

hydrangea quercifolia

Hydrangeas are amazing flowering shrubs that reproduce very well using cuttings. The best time to cut is during spring (after frost) until late summer. For it, you only have to take a branch of about 15cm from a healthy and vigorous specimen; preferably that it shows no signs of wanting to flower (although if this is the case, remove the flower buds, since the plants spend a lot of energy in maintaining them, and we could lose the cutting before it roots)

Once you have it, it is time to prepare the seedbed. There are many types of seedlings: peat tablets, yogurt cups, milk containers and of course flowerpots. Choose the one you like the most, and plant your cutting in a very porous substrate, such as perlite, or clay balls mixed with a little peat. To get it to emit roots in less time, the use of rooting hormones is highly recommended, which you can sprinkle directly on the substrate, or impregnate the base of the cutting with them.

Now, water the seedbed and place it in a location protected from direct sun. Do not forget to keep the substrate slightly damp, and to pulverize the leaves from time to time. In this way, the risk of running out of leaves is greatly reduced. In a matter of a few weeks you will see how it begins to take out new shoots, unequivocal sign that everything has gone wonderfully.
