All of us who have plants hope that they will be fine for as long as they have to last, but sometimes a simple mistake in cultivation can cause our illusions to be lost as we see the leaves fall prematurely or pass the months and / or years and we don't see any growth.
Well, so that these things do not happen we can take a series of measures. So if you're wondering how to prevent my potted plants from dying, try our tips.
Change them pot
This is one of the most important things to do. We tend to think that the plants we buy in pots can always be in those same containers, which is a mistake. And it is that, normally, those that are put up for sale have already taken root well; so that once we buy them and take them home we will have to transplant them every 2 or 3 springs. In this way, we will ensure that they continue to grow.
Water them whenever they need it
Irrigation is one of the fundamental cultivation tasks for everything to go well. But as important as watering is watering well, ensuring that the entire substrate is soaked. In addition, excesses must be avoided, otherwise the roots will rot immediately. For this reason, we must check the humidity of the soil before taking the shower, doing the following for example:
- Insert a thin wooden stick to the bottom: if it comes out practically clean, it will mean that the earth is dry and that, therefore, it is necessary to water.
- Use a digital humidity meter: they can serve as a guide, but I advise inserting them in different areas (closer to the edge of the pot, closer to the plant) so that it is really useful.
- Take the pot once it has been watered and again after a few days: wet soil weighs more than dry soil, so this difference in weight will help us to know when to water.
Moreover, the best irrigation water is and will be rainwater. If we cannot get it, we will water it with water without lime, or acidified (by pouring the liquid of half a lemon in 1l of water).
Treat them with natural products
Plants, in order to be healthy and to be able to fight against diseases and pests, need natural products. Insecticides and other chemicals are fine for extreme cases, but we cannot forget that they are toxic to the environment, and also to ourselves. To avoid problems and incidentally achieve that they produce high quality fruits or that they grow at their natural rate, we will treat them with organic and ecological products. And here is a list of articles that tell you about it:
- Natural remedies for pests
- Natural remedies for fungus
- Ecological fertilizers
- Diatomaceous earth (fertilizer and insecticide)
Do some research to find out where to locate them
Before even buying a plant you have to know where it has to be placed, since there are some that they are sunny, other shadow and others of semi-shadow. So, If you have doubts, you can ask at the nursery, or if you prefer, you can take a photo and send it to us. ours P so that we can tell you where to put it.
All in all, you are sure to be able to enjoy a spectacular home or patio. 🙂
