How to recover dry plants?

It has surely happened to you that you arrive on a trip, or you have been absent for a few days from home, and when you pay attention to your garden again, you realize that some plants are dry and wilted. Do not worry, you do not have to make a drama about it, since there are solutions to this problem, that is, you can recover them and restore their beauty. But make sure that carelessness with your garden does not become routine as it could end up dying your plants.

It is important to note that, when a plant dries up The first thing that happens is that the vast majority of its leaves begin to detach. Those that do not fall can remain limp, while the earth is absolutely dry. The first thing you should do is remove all those dry leaves and start cleaning your specimen. After this, place the pot in a larger container with water, but without compost, since a dry plant should not be fertilized. Leave it there for about 10 minutes, so that the soil becomes soaked again and little by little it regains its volume.

Once this time has passed, remove it from that container and let it drain. Keep in mind that it is important to put it in water and let it get well wet, so that the soil can rehydrate, and the plant can regain its vigor. If your plant has dried up because it has spent a long time in a very bright area, it is best to leave it in an area with less light now, especially until it has fully recovered.

In very likely that the first few weeks, you begin to notice that some leaves dry up, But do not worry, it will be very normal, the most important thing is that you continue watering your plant as usual, without stopping watering for a single day. From the second week of having soaked your plant, you should prune the branches that are damaged and now if you apply a little fertilizer.

Hello, I just wanted to know what I can do because my plant begins to dry out, but if I water it every day it dries more and I pour water on it, I don't know what to do to save it or what to put on it so that it doesn't dry out?

      Hi loneliness.
From what you count, it seems that it is having an excess of watering. Take it out of the pot and wrap the root ball in kitchen paper to absorb the moisture. You may have to use a lot of paper, but in the end you will get the soil dry.
Once achieved, plant it back in the pot and, the next day, water it but only a little; that is, without wetting it all. When a week has passed, then give it a generous watering.
To avoid problems, I recommend that you also do a treatment with liquid universal fungicide. So the fungi will not be able to affect it.
      A greeting.

Hello, I have a colihue plant that dried up. My question is… is it possible to recover it? Since it is by bulb, how can I make him recover, thank you very much

      Hi Simon.
Do you mean the Chusquea culeou? If so, keep watering the pot, 2-3 times a week for at least a month, as it is possible that new shoots will emerge.
And if it is not, if you have any image of when she was healthy, upload it to en.tinypic.com and put the link here. If you don't know how to do it, I'll help you without problem 🙂
      A greeting.

Hi there! We went on a trip and when we returned two of our plants were dry. One is the lady of the night and the other is a youth. There was very intense heat in the city and the times they came to water them were not enough. Since we arrived we water and spray them every day. In addition to what I read in the note, any other recommendations? Thanks!

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hello Maria.
Daily watering can also be detrimental. It is best to let the substrate dry before watering again as the roots could rot. You can also suspend spraying, as they are plants that can live with low humidity without problem.
Treat them with a universal fungicide (liquid) to prevent fungi from affecting them.
      a greeting

Hi! I have a question. A few days ago I found a small tree lying on the street, it looked half dry, but it still has its green leaves. What can I do to get it back, and it grows normal? I already put it in a bottle of water for a couple of days to hydrate, and now I just put it in a pot. I did the right thing?
    Regards!!

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hello Rodrigo.
Well, it would have been more advisable to plant it directly in a pot. But nothing happens. Now put it in an area where it does not get direct sun, and water it every time the substrate is dry. When you see it growing, I recommend that you start to fertilize it so that it can grow healthy and strong.
      A greeting.

Hello, I have my plant in the office, I water it every other day but it dries more and more, I have it next to the window, could it be that the sun gives it a lot? or is the heat from the window killing it?

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hello Oscar.
From what you can tell, it seems that it is suffering from excessive watering. Indoor plants must be watered from time to time, every 3-4 days.
My advice is that you take it out of the pot and wrap the root ball with kitchen paper, cotton, or absorbent paper. The next day, plant it back in its pot, and don't water for two days. Thereafter, water every 3 or 4 days, depending on the humidity of the substrate. To check this humidity, take the pot once it has been watered, and take it again after a few days. You will notice that the drier the soil is, the less it weighs, which is a sign that it needs water.
      A greeting.

Hello! I am in charge of a friend's house and the cherry tomato plant in her garden is dying. I do not know what to do.
I will try to give the necessary background to see if you can help me:
This is an image of the current plant situation: http://es.tinypic.com/r/2hmnchs/9
I do not know if it is excess or lack of watering: I forgot to water for 5 days, then I was watering every 2-3 days and lately almost every other day.
The climate here is quite irregular: there are extremely sunny days, then very cloudy (but not cold) and thus, I think that -on average- it is 2 very sunny days for one cloudy one.
The plant seems to be dying "from the inside out" (if that makes sense. Honestly, I don't know about plants / gardening).
In the case of being excess water, I have no way of helping to 'dry out' the roots, since it is planted in the middle of the garden, not in a pot.
In addition, in the garden there is a chili pepper, garlic and other plants that are also one step away from death (fallen leaves, dried flowers, etc.)
    What should I do?

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hello Necole.
The plants you mention need high humidity. Therefore, I recommend watering them every 2-3 days. Older leaves (those that are lower) it is normal that over time they dry out, but at the same time they should come out new.
Look to see if they have any pests. Anyway to prevent you can make an infusion with garlic (crush 3 garlic cloves, and add them to a liter of water until it boils; then you just have to wait for it to cool, and fill a sprayer with this water) and pulverize the plants. This will prevent them from aphids and mealybugs.
      Greetings 🙂.

Good night. Excuse me, I have a little rose plant. But the leaves began to fall and several stalks began to wither, now the base is already dry, can I still save it?

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hi Loani.
From what he says, his plant is very bad 🙁
If there is nothing green, I am sorry to tell you that there is nothing to do now. I am sorry.

Hello, look, I have a vine that I had in a vase with water and a fish inside my vine grew about four meters suddenly the leaves began to surround and my fish died, but my vine has not recovered, only the strip remains. It does not have leaves, what should I do to recover it? Since I see it is still green but the root Si broke off.

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hello, Elizabeth.
From what you count, it looks like it has had excess watering / moisture.
I recommend you transfer it to a pot with a porous substrate (black peat mixed with perlite), and cut all the parts that are dry. Water very little: 2 times a week, maximum 3 if you live in an area with a warm climate.
      A greeting.

Hello, I am taking care of several plants, all of them are beautiful except one has fallen leaves, it is money tree, the stem is dry, what should I do and the instructions I followed them that every 7-10 days they need water, now I do not know what to do has me worried? Thanks!!!

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hi Yarelis.
If you mean the Pachira aquatica, it has to be in an area with a lot of light, and watered little, once or twice a week.
And wait. Unfortunately nothing more can be done 🙁.
      A greeting.

Hello!! Please can you tell me how I can fix the problem I have with a purple handenbergia? I missed my house for 15 days and the irrigation was in charge of a relative. When I left the plant was beautiful, full of leaves and when I returned, I found it with flowers but without leaves! I think it was due to excess water. Is there any way to save her? It is planted directly in the ground and because it is a somewhat large plant, I cannot put it in a pot. Thank you

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hi Patricia.
Being on the ground, all that remains is to wait. Remove the flowers, as they take a lot of energy, and water it occasionally with homemade rooting hormones (here explains how to do it).
      Good luck.

Hi! I bought a "Do not forget me", but after three days I already had many yellow and green animals, the lady who sold it told me to put an insecticide that she gave me directly on the leaves. Now it is already without any leaves and the stem looks like hard and shook. 🙁 What do I do? 🙁

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hello Yecane.
From what you count, your plant has aphids that you can fight with Chlorpyrifos.
Anyway, how often do you water it? Do you have a plate under it? This plant wants frequent waterings, but if we put a plate or tray under it, we must remove the excess water 15 minutes after watering, since otherwise its roots will rot.
      A greeting.

Hello, I had a Granda plant and it dried up. Can it be recovered? What should I do?

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hello Daiana.
You can scratch the trunk or branches to see if they are green. If so, keep the soil moist - but not waterlogged - and sooner or later it will bring out leaves.
      A greeting.

Hello!! I left home for two weeks and left my plants with water dispensers but the intense heat made it not last for so many days the water level that it left them, I have an avocado plant that was one meter high and very large leaves and beautiful and almost all of them have dried, I have put plenty of water in it, what should I do not to lose it? Thanks 🙂

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hi, Tony.
The most important thing you have already done: water it. But you must be careful, as too much water could be just as harmful.
Water it two to three times a week maximum during the summer, and a little less the rest of the year.
You can water it with homemade rooting hormones (here explains how to obtain them), as this will help it to produce new roots, which will give it strength.
      A greeting.

Hi there! I have a Rosita and it dried up I found little white and green animals, I took them off but it dried more, now it only has the stem, it still has something green but most of it is brown, what can I do to save it?

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hello Leslie.
It probably has aphids. You can treat it with chlorpyrifos or, if you want a natural remedy, with neem oil 🙂. You will find both for sale in nurseries.
      A greeting.

I have a very beautiful palm, my friends insisting that I give it a bouquet, I took it out of the pot and gave each one a little son, now my baby is dying, he has not cabbage anymore and I don't know what to do.

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hi Josefina.
Treat it with a fungicide (for fungi), since it is likely that some has gotten through where the suckers were.

Hello, I have an oregano plant, it was on a very good path but overnight it withered and got even black leaves, and branches, I do not know what could have sweated, if it was the change of place where more sunlight hits, or the type of irrigation that was every 4 days I will be able to recover it

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hello Alexis.
Peppermint is a plant that really likes direct sun, but if it is not used to it, it burns quickly.
I recommend you put it in a semi-pump and water it more often (3 times a week).
      A greeting.
