If you have or have had a cat, you have probably heard of it. It is the typical sand that is used so that this animal can relieve itself inside the house, thus preventing it from staining where it should not. It is economical, and due to its porosity it could be very useful for our plants.
Characteristics of sepiolite

Sepiolite is an absorbent mineral that belongs to the group of so-called phyllosilicates whose origin is sedimentary. It is opaque, with a very low hardness and matt. It is also known by the name of sea foam as it floats on water.
It is found in very porous land masses, and has a pH of 8,3. It is generally white in color, although sepiolite with yellowish or grayish tones can also be seen.
Can it be used on plants?
Yes and no. Let me explain: sepiolite is a substrate that has the disadvantage that over time it degrades and ends up forming a mud that makes it difficult for the water to drain. But it is very economical, so much so that a 10kg bag can cost you 9 euros. So it can be used, but at most two years, and not on all plants (succulents -cactus and crass- and bonsai will not do well).
Of course, before trying it, it is very important that you put a little in a plate with water and leave it overnight. If the next day it stays well, then you can use it.
