Called jiffy's because it sells them Jiffy Group and are seedbeds of pressed peat. It's about small compacted peat discs high quality, lined with a mesh. When they get wet, they increase in size, deepening the small hole at the top. They serve to seed or cut. The advantage is that you don't need to transplantYou introduce them directly, once the seed has germinated in the definitive pot, because they themselves constitute the substrate.
They are very easy to use, you just have to introduce the seeds or cuttings in them and keep them moist, until the small plants appear.
First, we will put the Jiffy in plenty of water for at least 15 minutes to rehydrate. When it has reached its maximum volume, we drain the excess water and put the seed in the center.
Once the seed has germinated, for the transplant, all you have to do is bury the Jiffy in the pot, without removing the plant from them, compacting the soil around it a little with your hands. In this way we do not cause any stress to the little plant. Your roots will go through the hairnet without any effort.
With them, germination and transplantation of any crop is much easier.
There is also a version that is like a small peat pot, which does not need previous hydration, but you have to add substrate.

Thanks for the information, I am interested in knowing how you can make a good homemade substrate for germination ???
Thanks in advance.
Hello Sandra.
For the seedlings you can use vermiculite, coconut fiber, or soil prepared for seedlings that they already sell ready to use.
Greetings.
And what size should you buy, 44mm?
my question is if i have peat. How do I press the peat and let me have the jiffys. can it be done or if you have to buy it? it looks like it is made of gauze
Hi Alfonso.
Very good question. I have been looking for information and although there are peat preys, I have not found any information.
The jiffy sideburns are worth very little anyway, 3-5 euro cents depending on the size. In Plantascorunna.es they sell them more or less for that price.
A greeting.
where can i buy jiffy
Hi Cesar.
You can buy it in nurseries or online.
A greeting.
