Living stones

Lithops

Nature is wonderful. There are very surprising plants of all kinds. There are some cactus that can be confused with stones. These cacti are the Lithops. These have an oval shape, which do not reach 5 centimeters in height. They have colors similar to stones, that is, grayish and greenish colors.

They are made up of two leaves separated by a groove through which the flower emerges. The flower is usually white or yellow in its different shades. Lithops bloom in autumn and winter and we will only see the flowers in the afternoons, as they close at night.

They are desert plants, they support very high temperatures but not frost, so if you live in a place where it always does heatYou can have it outside, however, if there is a danger of freezing temperatures, it is better to place them indoors.

It is recommended to have them in the interior always, because they are formed by water and outside they run the risk of being pecked by a bird. Indoors, they should be placed in very large pots because their roots are immense.

Their care They are very simple, since their risk is minimal. During the winter they do not need to be watered, as it is their rest period. In summer, it will only be watered once or twice a month, although we will know it needs water when the weak cactus is seen. However, if the plant looks too hard, it is better not to water, as we run the risk of rot.

La lighting It can be in full sunlight, although they hold the shade.

It can multiply the plant through the division of kills or through the seeds that are produced in the flower.

They are magnificent cacti, in addition duran six or seven years, so we have time and time to enjoy its beauty and its pretty flower.

As a curious fact I leave that, although they look like cacti, they are in a different family than Cactaceae, they are in Aizoaceae
