Origin and characteristics

Our protagonist is a perennial shrub native to Europe whose scientific name is atriplex halimus. It is popularly known as gorse, osagra, salty white or marismo. Reaches a height of up to 2 meters, and if it is allowed to grow on its own, it tends to form rounded or oval clumps.

The leaves are evergreen, silver-gray and wrinkled, alternate, ovate-lanceolate, subrombic, with the entire edge, and up to 4 centimeters in length. The flowers are monoecious (there are female and male), they are yellowish-green in color and appear in spike-shaped inflorescences during the summer.

It is important that you know that it is a toxic plant due to its high content of alkaline salts.
