Make your own homemade drip irrigation

home drip irrigation

Due to the consequences of climate change and the financial crisis that is affecting the entire planet, several of us have our favorite green corner on a rather dry terrain. In addition, we all want to save as much as possible in said garden, right?

One of the ways to do it is making your own homemade drip irrigation. Do you want to know how? Take note, and start saving water.

Plastic bottle to make a homemade drip irrigation

The easiest system that I am going to tell you is that of make your drip irrigation with plastic bottles. Every day several are thrown away in each home, but what if we give them a new life by helping us water the plants? To do this, you only need a bottle (the more capacity it has, the more water it can give to your pots for longer), a sharp object (sewing scissors, needles or a knife) and cords or thin PVC tubes. Although the latter is optional, for soils with a tendency to compact, or if you are going on vacation for a few days and you don't want your plants to get very thirsty, it is highly recommended.

Once you have everything, it's time to get down to work to enjoy your home drip irrigation as soon as possible.

Drip irrigation

There are several variants of this system; and, as they say, each teacher has his booklet. They are all just as effective, so I'm going to tell you about them and then you choose the one that is easiest for you.

Holes in the cap and insert the bottle into the soil (or pot)

You can see this in the image above. It is, perhaps, the one that is most practical and useful if you are going to be absent for a long time. Just poke holes in the bottle cap, trim the bottom, insert the bottle upside down into the soil or pot, and connect a hose to a tap.

Insert a PVC tube or cord into the cap

I saw this variant very recently and it was very curious to me. It is a great idea to save even more water, and so that the roots can absorb it little by little, avoiding problems. To do this you just have to make a hole in the cap, insert a cord or tube, fill the water bottle, and voila.

Remove the cap and place the bottle in the ground

This third variant is interesting to put either in the garden or on the ground. You have to remove the plug, make holes -diminutes- through the bottle and introduce it into the ground. Finally, you fill it with water.

Solar Home Drip Irrigation

Finally let's talk about how to create your home solar drip irrigation. This type of drip irrigation is a very simple technique, which It will allow you to save up to 10 times more water. You need a large bottle of 5l (or more) and a smaller one. You have to cut the base for the large one, and the upper half for the small one. The latter will be the one that contains the water, and the large one will be the one that will prevent the liquid from being lost through evaporation..

Like a picture is worth a thousand words take a look at this video:

So, from now on you can watch your plants grow like you've never done before with your home drip irrigation.

Do you know any more methods to make a home drip irrigation system? Tell us which one you have used and your tricks to automatically water your plants or garden.

Logically, you will probably have to adapt these home drip irrigation systems to your needs, using larger capacity bottles or even several units if you have to cover a large area of land.

What is clear is that it is an infallible irrigation system, very comfortable and that we can also manufacture ourselves so the cost is practically zero.

If you find it difficult to manufacture, you can always buy a drip irrigation. In the link that we have just left you will find very cheap and easy options to install in your garden.

How many liters does a tree need per week?

      Hello Sofia.
      Sorry for the delay 🙁.
It depends on the size, but for example if it measures about 30 centimeters, you have to add about 1l.
      A greeting.
