Meet Aloe broomii, a unique succulent

aloe_bromii

El aloe broomii It is a non-cactus succulent native to South Africa that is very different from the other Aloe species: it is more compact, with more rigid leaves and a perfect size to have it planted as an isolated specimen.

Its growth rate is slow, but that is not a problem; in fact, it is almost an advantage, since you can use it to decorate your terrace for years.

Aloe broomii characteristics

Aloe broomii var. tarkaensis

Our protagonist is a plant native to South Africa, where it grows on the rocky slopes of mountainous areas, at an altitude of between 1000 to 2000 meters. Reach a 150cm tall, with dense rosettes of leaves which are bright green to greenish-yellow, fleshy and with serrated edges. The flowers, of a beautiful yellow color, are grouped in inflorescences on the stems that come out of each rosette and reach 100cm in height.

This is an Aloe that can be grown for years in a pot, and even for a lifetime if planted in a large pot (40cm in diameter minimum) once it measures 35-40cm in diameter. But if you want to have it in the garden, I recommend planting it together with other succulents (cacti and succulents), such as Cleistocactus straussii, Oreocereus trollii, Echeverias or Mammillarias. It will be very good 😉.

Do you like this Aloe? If so, here is your care guide:

  • Location: outside, in full sun.
  • Irrigation: moderate, 2 to 3 times a week in summer, and every 4-5 days the rest of the year.

  • Soil or substrate: must have good drainage. It does not resist waterlogging.
  • Transplant: every two years, in spring.
  • Multiplication: by seeds in spring-summer.
