How is the pruning of the melon?

Melon

Melon is a creeping plant that produces delicious fruits, which also have a large amount of water, which makes quenching thirst in summer very easy. But if we want it to be really healthy we must, first, water it practically daily, and second, prune it from time to time.

So if you want to know how is the pruning of the melon, then I'll explain it to you.

When was it pruned?

The melon plant has a fairly rapid growth rate. As the days go by we will realize that its stems get quite long. Therefore, if we want it to produce more fruit than it normally would and of better quality, we must prune it regularly. Now, how often?

The frequency will vary depending on each specimen, as well as the care it is receiving and the climate. If you receive everything you need and are very healthy, it will have to be pruned at least once a month.

How is it pruned?

The melon is pruned with pruning shears previously disinfected with pharmacy alcohol. Once we have them, we must follow this step by step:

  1. 4-5 true leaves should be allowed to sprout. Of these, 2 or 3 are removed.
  2. After a while we will see that lateral stems emerge. We will let them have 5 to 6 true leaves and we will remove 3 or 4. Of those that remain, new stems will be born that are fruitful that it does not matter that they are pruned.
  3. It is advisable to clamp the tertiary stems as well, removing 2-3 leaves. In this way, the vigor of the plant is slowed and the formation of fruits is favored.

In case there are doubts, and since we know that sometimes an image is worth more than a thousand words, I leave you with this video in which it is well explained how it is done:
