There are many places in the world where all of us who enjoy seeing and growing plants can have a very pleasant time. Without going any further, I would dare to say that there is at least one botanical garden in each country, especially if it is in a region with a temperate climate or one with a tropical climate. But there is one that is special: the Miracle garden, in Dubai.

In this incredible place we find millions and millions of flowers and plants, which enjoy a warm climate thanks to which they can create a garden in which forgetting about problems is as simple as stopping to admire the landscape.

History of the Miracle Garden (Dubai)

The Miracle Garden is a garden that was established in the early 2000s and whose first phase was completed in about two months, and it opened in February 2013. It consisted of a series of facilities that occupy an area of 6400 square meters, and which consist of both vertical and horizontal gardens, each with its own design.

The second phase of the project began in June 2013 and was completed a few months later, in October. At that time what was done was to increase the surface of the garden by 70%, building the butterfly garden, shops, a flower clock and mosques. In addition, a multi-story car park was built. A) Yes, The total area of the Miracle Garden today is 72 thousand square meters, and it has more than 250 million plants and more than 50 million flowers.

But who is behind this huge but fantastic project? As well. We owe it to an agreement between Dubailand and the Dubai Properties Group company. In fact, this garden is part of the real estate development of Cityland, a company that is dedicated to creating spaces inspired by nature. And in a place like Dubai, a country of little more than 4000 square kilometers and in which more than 3300 billion people live, visiting this garden is finding a lot of peace.

Where there are many different types of flowers, the normal thing is that there are also many butterflies. These insects are the same or prettier than the plants they pollinate, and one of the most important. But there are many species that are in danger of extinction, mainly due to pollution and loss of habitat.

Fortunately, in the Miracle Garden they have found a place to live well, since 2015, the year in which the Dubai Buterfly Garden was inaugurated. This is the world's first indoor butterfly garden, and home to more than 15 individuals representing 26 both indigenous and exotic species.

Presence of the endearing Disney characters in the garden

You could almost say that the Miracle Garden is a garden that could well have been taken from a Disney tale. And even more so when we see some characters made with flowers, such as Goofy, Pluto, Donald Duck and his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, Mickey or Minnie Mouse.

These structures were inaugurated in February 2018, as part of the agreement signed by the Miracle Garden and The Walt Disney. Because of this, children (and their parents) will be able to take some photos with their favorite characters.

What is the maintenance of the Dubai Miracle Garden?

The Miracle Garden is in an area where it is very hot for several months of the year. It's more, from May to September it is closed to the public since it is not uncommon for maximum temperatures to touch or even exceed 40ºC, something that makes it very difficult to enjoy the beauty of the flowers that decorate it. With this in mind, it is easy to think that all those plants need a lot of water.

And in Dubai it is not exactly that it rains a lot. According to data from the Climate Data website, only an average of 87 mm of precipitation falls per year (In my area, south of Mallorca, it is about 350mm per year, and it seems few to me). But when you consider making a garden in an arid or semi-arid area, or in one where there is little rain and / or there are prolonged droughts, you have to manage to keep the garden alive.

That's what they do at the Miracle Garden: There, the gray waters of the city of Dubai, previously filtered, are used to to water. In addition, irrigation is done only at night, after closing, to make the most of this precious and scarce liquid. Even so, an average of 757.082 liters of water are used every day.
