Peperomia caperata Lilian, houseplant

Peperomia caperata Lilian

It is rare that I buy inside plants Well, in general I am inclined to choose one that tolerates semi-shade conditions for then to locate next to a window. Fortunately, I live in a very sunny apartment with large windows so I run with a certain advantage.

But if you live in a dark apartment then there is no other option than to think of an indoor plant. Of all the species you can find, the Peperomia caperata Lilian it is an option. It is a plant that does not grow too much so you can place it in any corner. Although until a few years ago, it was considered a filler plant, today it takes center stage in pots and vases.

Thick-leaved plant

Peperomia caperata

Better known as Mouse tail or pepper, Peperomia caperata it is a very particular plant if we take into account its appearance. It is native to certain subtropical regions of America, such as Mexico, Brazil and the islands of the Caribbean Sea, and its great characteristic is that it is a semi-succulent plant, because it stores water in its leaves, which are therefore thick and fibrous. These leaves are heart-shaped, deep green, and highly veined. They contrast with the color of the stems, which are erect and a soft green. The Peperomia belongs to the family of the Peperomiaceae, which in turn is part of the Piperaceae family.
The mouse tail is a herbaceous and epiphytic plant, that is, it usually grows on a base, such as the trunks of trees.

Plant care

Peperomia caperata Lilian, semi-succulent plant

To have a Peperomia you need a somewhat humid environment and with an average temperature of between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius. Avoid exposing it to direct light as it needs to be protected from the sun.

Because it is a plant with rhizomes, you have to be careful when watering it, always avoiding that the soil is too wet. It is best to wait for it to dry and then water again as this will avoid puddles that lead to rotting of the leaves that are below.

With a little care, you can have a Mouse Tail inside your home to beautify the environments. It is an undemanding plant so you will not have to be aware of it.
