Who said that you can't have plants in rough terrain? It is only a matter of choosing those species that can grow in these types of corners. Do not miss the opportunity to have a spectacular garden, although the ground is full of stones and rocks.
To help you, we have made for you a list of plants for a rockery garden.
Before getting into the matter, let's know what a rockery is. Well, rockery is a rustic style decoration designed with alpine or drought resistant plants that grow in dry and poor terrain. In low-maintenance gardens they are very common, since they beautify them even more if possible.
Depending on the climate you have, as well as what style your particular paradise has, it will be advisable to choose some species or others.
Alpine rockery
Plants that resist cold very well are used for these rockeries. Generally, it is usually chosen dwarf conifers and flowers that live in temperate climates.
The most appropriate are the following:
- Juniperus chinensis
- Pinus mugo
- average taxus
- astilbe
- Phlox subulata
- Bulbous: tulips, daffodils, muscari, crocus
If you like northern gardens, now you too can have one and without having to leave your home.
Rockery of succulents
The plants for this type of rockery are characterized by resisting drought well. Also, since it doesn't need a lot of land to grow, they can be planted even on really stony soils. They can also live very close to the sea, since they support the sea breeze.
Although all the succulents will help you have a great rockery, the most recommended are:
- Agave
- Yucca
- Sempervivum
- All kinds of cactus
Incredible combinations can be made with them, thus achieving a desert garden in a confined space.
Rockeries are an excellent opportunity to take advantage of a space, don't you think? 😉
The astilbe then must be in poor soil? And dry or wet? I have been trying this plant for 2 years since I have semi-shade and shade, and it does not die but it remains poor. My soil is rich and with a pH of approx 6
Hello Ruth.
Yes effectively. Astilbe grows best in poor, humid soils.
Greetings, and good luck 🙂.
