Today we will talk about something very curious: how plants can recover on their own, and with what. It will surely surprise you, as it is a drug that is usually present in many homes. And it is that, we must not forget that all medicines (or practically all) are extracted from plants. They are our most natural pharmacy. But they can also be recovered from each other.
If you would like to solve this mystery, keep reading.
It turns out that a group of researchers discovered that there are a number of plants that emit a gas very similar to one of the painkillers that we humans use the most. We are referring to aspirin. Yes, yes, just like we use aspirin for cold or flu, plants emit this gas in cases of water stress (i.e. extreme drought) or extreme temperatures. They also use it as a pain reliever, somehow making them better able to withstand these conditions by strengthening their own defense system.
In addition, these researchers said that this could be very useful to farmers, as could prevent problems long before the plant was seriously affected.
Acetylsalicylic acid (active ingredient in aspirin) was discovered doing experiments with walnut trees, in California. Therefore, scientists already knew that this acid was produced by plants, but did not know exactly what they used it for. And it is that surely we still have to discover many mysteries about the green that dresses the forests, the fields, and our own gardens, balconies and / or terraces, don't you think?
So they help us, but they also help each other. It is something fascinating that we must take into account, because what would become of us if there were no plant kingdom?
