Plants to repel ants at home

Menta

It is increasingly noticeable that we are gradually approaching summer, not only because the days are getting longer and warmer, but also because of the return of some insects that, although in the garden they can do a great job pollinating the flowers , at home they can cause more annoyance than anything else. We are talking about ants, small insects that spend all day working collecting all the food they can to better spend the winter.

There are many chemical products on the market that can kill them, but we believe that the best solution is to use plants that repel them. Thus, not only are the insects themselves not harmed, but the environment is not harmed either. Three plants that perform very well the function of repelling ants are: mint (top photo), the lavender essence and thyme.

Lavender

Both lavender and mint have a very intense aroma (and nice to us, yeah) that ants don't like it at all. In fact, it is virtually impossible for either plant to have a problem with these insects. Its cultivation is very simple, and its maintenance is low. Of course, they need to be in full sun therefore they are not suitable to have indoors ...

... But for the present case that is not a problem. The scent of lavender is found in its flowers, and that of mint in its leaves. If you do not have a garden, but you have a patio or terrace, have one of these plants in pots - large - and to repel the ants, take flower stems of lavender and / or mint leaves and put them in the path that the ants travel. You will see how they will stop going there. And if you don't have a patio or terrace either but you have a friend or relative who has these plants, ask them to give you some stems.

Thyme

Thyme is a plant that many of us have in the kitchen, since it is used a lot to make delicious recipes. Although its ideal location would be outside and in full sun, we can also have it, as I said, in the kitchen as long as there is plenty of natural light in this room. Being a plant of Mediterranean origin, it resists drought very well, therefore if we do not have much experience in caring for plants, thyme is ideal for us.

To repel ants we can either take twigs and place them in the path of these insects, or place the plant in that path. Little by little we will achieve a home free of ants.
