Change of Pots and Cactus Transplant II

As we saw previously, like any plant, the succulents and cacti They can be planted in pots and transplanted from the ground to the pot or vice versa. The reason why we make this change can be due to various factors, such as if the plant is very large and no longer fits in that pot or container, if the roots have begun to come out from under the pot or simply because the soil or substrate is poor in nutrients and it is necessary to add another one that is fresher.

Today we bring you other tips that you should follow and take into account to transplant or change the pot to your plant succulent or cactus:

  • If you realize that during the transplant, the roots have been abused or have broken, it is advisable to wait around 15 days to water the plant.
  • After having changed the pot, it is recommended that the watering be fair, that is, water little by little so as not to cause rotting of the roots. Irrigation can be increased, only at the time when symptoms of plant growth appear, for example before the appearance of buds, or strong green colors at the ends of the plant, etc.
  • As we all know, these plants usually have thorns that can cause damage to our hands and fingers at the time of transplantation, so we recommend use special gardening gloves and fold some sheets of newspaper to handle the plant. In case the cactus is large, I recommend asking someone for help to be able to transplant. Do not forget that you must protect your eyes with plastic glasses and your body to avoid accidents.

  • It is important that the soil or substrate that we use for the transplant and for the cactus pots is suitable. In some places, they usually sell special soil for cacti. But you can also make your own mix using 50% washed river sand, and 50% black peat. The soil that we use must be characterized by being porous, loose and aerated so that it allows a better development of our plant.
