Pruning shears maintenance

Pruning

All the pruning shears they are a very useful and practical gardening tool. They have the right weight to be able to hold them for as long as necessary without getting tired while we trim our plants to make them look healthy and beautiful.

However, if we do not maintain them correctly, there will come a time when they will cease to be useful to us. To avoid this, I am going to explain how you can clean them so that, in this way, you can use it whenever you need it.

Maintenance of pruning shears

Pruning shears

Before and after pruning it is very important to clean the scissors, since otherwise we would cause diseases to be transmitted from a diseased plant to a healthy one very easily. But how to do it? So:

  1. The first thing we have to do is fill a bucket or basin with hot water and a little soap.
  2. Afterwards, we moisten the scissors and, with a metal scourer or, better, a stiff bristle brush, we scratch the blade and the spring, leaving them very clean.
  3. Once this is done, we dry it well, conscientiously.
  4. Now, in the case that the blade has small notches, we cut them down with a fine tooth file.
  5. Next, we have to disinfect it with pharmacy alcohol. We moisten a piece of cotton with it, and clean the sheet.
  6. Finally, we spray the pruning shears with lubricating oil. Thus, it will not rust, which will extend the life of this fantastic gardening tool.

Tips

Pruning

Pruning shears are to be used only for trimming thin branches. To keep them as long as possible, it is very important to use them only for this purpose, since if we tried to prune a branch by prying, what we would do would be to spoil the scissors, so the next time we were to use them they would not cut well.

In addition, it is highly advisable to purchase quality scissors. They are more expensive, but have a much longer shelf life. And that's not to mention that spare parts are easily found.
