Recognized sizes of Bonsai

Bonsai

As we saw aboveNot everything that is planted in a Bonsai pot can be called as such. But, in addition, the veteran masters of this Art tell us that the tree must have a certain size, and that, depending on its height, it will be within one group or another.

So, in this article we will talk about the different sizes that there are according to the experts.

  • Hachi-Uye: greater than 130 cm. These are generally cuttings or seed trees that, due to their leaf size (they are usually long or large leaves), or because they grow very fast, cannot be further reduced in size. The transplant work is arduous, and it often takes two or more people to remove the tree from the pot and plant it in another.
  • Omono bonsai: large, maximum 130 cm.
  • Bonsai chumono: medium, 45 to 90 cm.
  • Katade-Mochi: from 20 to 45 cm. It would be the most suitable for beginners.
  • Komono bonsai: from 12 to 18 cm.
  • Mame bonsai: less than 15 cm. They are the ones that need the most care. Having such a small pot, the water evaporates very quickly. You have to be very aware of him. It is the most recommended for those who already have knowledge and experience in this world of Bonsai.

But, regardless of the size of our tree, we must not forget that what you are always trying to achieve is imitate nature.

When a tree germinates in shallow soil, even though it is genetically programmed to grow up to ten meters, if it does not find enough nutrients in the soil, it will not grow as much as another plant that has germinated in deeper soil.

For this reason, Bonsai try to imitate these plants, not only in terms of size, but also in the design created by Mother Nature.
