How to recover a dry garden

Dry garden

You just moved in and have come across a dry garden? Have you been away for a while and your precious green paradise has withered? Whether you are in one situation or another, we will help you. The dry will not be able to live again, but you can have, by performing some tasks, the green space of your dreams.

Of course, before we start, let me give you a first tip: be patient. Depending on how spoiled it is, it may take more or less time to green it. But by being constant in daily work, you will achieve your purpose. Let's see how to recover a dry garden.

Pass the tiller (or tiller)

Motocultor

The rototiller, or the motor hoe if the garden is small, will do two things for you: remove dry grass and break up the top layer of the earth. You can also do it with a hoe, but depending on how big the plot is, it can take a lot of time and effort.

Level the ground

Gardening tools

With the help of a rake, level the ground so that it is more or less flat. In the event that you have natural slopes that are not very accentuated, you can leave them to later create a cactus garden, since these plants adapt very well to this type of terrain, especially if they are sandy.

Fertilize the soil

Organic fertilizer

A dry garden probably no longer has all the nutrients that ornamental or horticultural plants will need to grow, so it is very important to put a layer of about 5-8cm of organic compost as earthworm humus: manure.

Then rake again to level the ground.

Make a draft

Draft

On paper or on the computer, using a garden design program, make a draft of how you want your garden to be. In the, you have to put, not only the plants, but also the furniture that you want to have taking into account the size of the garden.

Install the irrigation system

Drip irrigation

If you don't have, it's time to install the sprinkler system to prevent it from drying out again. There are several types: drip, spray, exhudation, in addition to conventional hoses and showers. Choose the one that best suits your needs and get it.

Plant the plants

Trees

Once the draft is done, get to the best part: shopping! Visit the nurseries that you have close to home, and choose those plants that they have in the outdoor facilities, since those will be the ones that adapt without problem to living in your garden throughout the year. Try to choose only those that you have in mind, otherwise you could end up having a jungle (I tell you from experience 🙂), which can be beautiful, but it will not be a garden, let's say, orderly.

When you have them at home, plant them in the location you have chosen for them, always keeping in mind that those that become higher must be behind the lower ones. In this way, they can all receive the amount of sunlight they need.

Put some furniture

Set of tables and chairs

The furniture looks great in all types of gardens, especially if they are large. A) Yes, you can put a table set with matching chairs on the terrace, a few sun loungers near the pool, the odd sofa under the pergola…, You just have to decide what kind of furniture do you want.

Prune your garden plants

Pruning

If there were already plants in your garden and they are alive, it is most likely that need a rejuvenation pruning, especially climbers. Therefore, if winter has just ended, take a saw or handsaw, disinfect it with pharmacy alcohol, and cut off those branches that have grown excessively. In the case of trees and shrubs, you have to remove those that look weak, sick and also those that intersect.

Enjoy your new garden

Now that you have your garden done, it's time to enjoy it. You will have to continue taking care of it, of course, but the »hard work» is already finished. You can take the opportunity to celebrate it by inviting your loved ones to a meal, for example 😉.

I hope that from now on you can show off your garden, and above all, spend many pleasant moments in it, which in the end is the most important thing.
