Rosales diseases II

As we saw previously, our rose bushes can suffer from some problems such as pests that affect their growth and flowering. They can also suffer from diseases that will affect their development and flower quality in the same way.

Yesterday we saw 3 of the most frequent diseases that can affect our rose bushes. Today we bring you some other diseases that can affect and harm your plants.

  • Black spot: Although it is not as frequent as Rust, Powdery mildew or Mildew, it can also appear on our roses. They are characterized by the appearance of black spots on the leaves. Little by little these spots spread along the leaves and the stem until they cause the leaf to weaken and fall. If you begin to notice the appearance of leaves attacked by this black spot, it is important to collect and destroy them to prevent it from continuing to infect the plant. To control the appearance of this disease, the treatment used to attack Mildew and Powdery mildew will suffice.
  • BotrytisAlso known as gray rot or mold, it occurs when rose buds rot. This disease usually appears during the spring and early fall seasons. To combat it, the affected leaves and flowers must be removed to prevent it from spreading to the rest of the crops. To control this disease you can use the same products used to combat fungus in rose bushes.

  • Soil fungi: Roses are exposed all the time, to the decomposition of their roots by soil fungi such as the armilaria mellea, the verticillium albo-atrum among others. Although it is difficult to know for sure if our rose bush is suffering from this type of fungal infection, we can prevent the appearance of this disease. Generally, the roots can get fungi from the soil due to excessive watering, so we must try to provide our plant with the necessary water. In the same way, if we begin to notice our plant withered and affected by fungi, we must uproot it and do not replant new roses in that place.

    Hello Gustavo.
They are usually the "excrement" of some parasites, usually aphids, although they can also be whiteflies or even cottony mealybugs.
If the plant is small, you can simply with a gauze or a brush dipped in water and a drop of soap, clean leaves and stems. But if the problem is really very serious, get an insecticide that contains chlorpyrifos and, following the manufacturer's recommendations, spray the entire rose bush well.
    A greeting.
