Rose of Jericho, the plant that resurrects

Selaginella lepidophylla

If there is a plant with the power to amaze us all in a matter of a few minutes, it is the one known by the name of Rose of jericho. After a seemingly lifeless period of time has passed, as soon as a few drops of rain fall, it begins to turn green. And she does everything at the right speed so that we can't look away from her.

This characteristic makes it an exceptional gift.

Two very similar plants are marketed under the name of Rosa de Jericó: the Selaginella lepidophylla, a fern native to America, and the Hierochuntic Anastatica, native to the deserts of Arabia. The latter is the authentic Rose of Jericho, although both are cared for in the same way.

These plants are extraordinary: with minimal water contact, they quickly turn green. In fact, they usually take no more than 30 minutes. But how do you take care of it? Should you plant it in a pot and keep it as if it were a 'normal' plant (that is, as if it had roots)? Well, the truth is that it is much easier than it seems.

This plant, although they have roots, they keep better in water. Thus, they should be placed in a full bowl and changed every 2 or 3 days so that mold does not grow. In this way, it will also prevent fungi from affecting it. Now, in the event that you have to make a move for example, you can always take it out of the bowl and store it in a cool and dry place for as long as you consider necessary before reviving it again. Put it in a very bright room and you will see how beautiful it becomes 🙂.

Without a doubt, the Rose of Jericho is one of those plants that, once you discover them, you can no longer forget them.

Have they given you any?
