Sabal minor

Sabal minor palm

When we talk about palm trees we usually imagine plants that reach impressive heights, but the truth is that there are some (few, of course) that can even be kept in a pot throughout their life. One of them is the Sabal minor, which has fan-shaped leaves of a beautiful color.

It resists important frosts without problems, so you will not have any problem with it. Would you like to meet him?

Origin and characteristics

Sabal minor

Our protagonist is a palm native to the southeastern United States, specifically from Florida to eastern North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Louisiana to eastern Texas. Its scientific name is Sabal minor, although it is known as sabal dwarf or palmetto dwarf. It is unicaule, which means that it develops a single trunk, and this does not exceed 2 meters in height and 30-35cm in diameter.

The leaves are fan-shaped, and are formed by up to 40 leaflets of up to 80cm long, and measure 1-5-2m long. The flowers are grouped in yellowish inflorescences measuring up to 2m in length. The fruit is a 1-1,3cm long black drupe that contains a single seed.
